Our History
In the United Arab Emirates at the beginning of the 1980’s, many palaces, hotels and luxury villas were being built.
The Glasshouse was set up in 1984 to answer the need for decorative and specialist glass, which at the time was all being imported from abroad, at great risk and expense. One such container of decorated mirrors scheduled for a royal palace arrived in Dubai badly damaged. The interior contractors heard about the newly established Glasshouse, and this ‘lucky break’ gave the company an early start with some of the most prestigious projects in the country. The company quickly grew through training, and the hiring of specialist artists and artisans.
Several large projects were completed in the early eighties for the rulers of Dubai and Oman, which helped to establish The Glasshouse as the premier producer of etched and stained glass in the region. International competitors were challenged and projects won – not just on price – but by innovation, design, quality and reliable service.
Since these early days, we have pioneered the development of many types of decorative glass production in the Gulf region, introducing stained glass, fusing and kiln-forming, ceramic printing, sculptural features of stacked glass, suspended structures, durable backpainted glass, and glass staircases to mention a few.
Many members of our team have been with the company for fifteen or twenty years, developing skills along the way, and ensuring a depth of experience second to none.In 1992, Glasshouse joined the Gibca group of companies, providing a strong and stable foundation to our operation. In 2014, the company moved into a new large factory located next to our sister company Gulf Glass Industries. Now after thirty two years of continuous development, the Glasshouse remains the leading solution provider in specialist glass, providing original design concepts and solutions, or happily working to those provided by clients.
